Ego Death in the Dream Machine was originally composed by request as a ballet and was performed several times in 2015 by ballerinas with Ballet Idaho. At the time, Ego Death in the Dream Machine held a feeling and compositional style that one would not have found on any other Sun Blood Stories release. Years later, upon revisiting this piece, Sun Blood found layered in the music themes that had laid dormant for years. Though largely forgotten in their dormant state, these themes still managed to inspire so much of the band’s work including their September 2019 release, Haunt Yourself.
Ego Death in the Dream Machine features Nik Kososik, Daniel Francis Ojeda, Jon Fust, Amber Pollard, and Ben Kirby. The piece was mixed and mastered by Daniel Kerr.
